Spring 2017

Why it’s OK to see the doctor before you get sick

Has it been a while since you checked in with your doctor? Whether you have an ongoing issue, like diabetes, or just want to eat better and exercise, regular doctor’s visits are a key part of your wellness journey. Don’t hold off until you get sick — schedule an annual well visit today to set a course for better health.

Stop health problems before they start

Taking care of your health and wellness can have a huge impact on your quality of life. It's important that you’re comfortable talking about your health with your primary care provider (PCP) and the other health professionals at your Synergy or Summit Network Medical Home. As the anchor of your coordinated care team, your doctor is there to listen, help you overcome challenges and set goals.

Yearly medical checkups cover both your physical and mental health, as well as other issues that matter to you:

If you haven’t booked a preventive visit with your doctor yet, add it to your to-do list this spring. As a Moda Health member, your annual well visit is free. Just schedule an appointment with your in-network primary care provider and you’ll be good to go.

Don’t forget about dental and vision care

While your PCP focuses on your overall health, annual vision care and dental visits also can help keep you on the path to better health.

Studies show that problems in your mouth, like a tooth infection, can cause you to get sick. Regular dental exams and cleanings keep your teeth clean and the rest of your body healthier.

Similarly, taking time to get your eyesight checked can have an impact on your health. It’s not just about getting fitted for glasses or contacts. Regular eye exams are key to identifying eye diseases early and protecting your vision. Your eye doctor also may spot other health issues, including high blood pressure or diabetes, sometimes before your PCP does.

If it’s been more than 12 months since your last dental cleaning or vision exam, be proactive — book a visit today.
